49th Infantry Regiment

The 49th Infantry Regiment was part of the Army's wartime and interwar expansion base and did not retain the same long-term prominence as some better-known active regiments. Like other lineages in this range, it reflects the Army's practice of creating units for specific strategic needs and then reducing or inactivating them when those needs changed.
