1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment
The 1st Battalion is the best place to frame the Manchus' core identity. The parent regiment page emphasizes the 9th Infantry's extraordinarily strong association with the 2d Infantry Division in World War I, World War II, and Korea, and the 1st Battalion reads most naturally as a carrier of that long divisional tradition.
That gives the 1st Battalion slot the clearest tie to the regiment's most famous twentieth-century service: the steady, battle-hardened line of the 2d Infantry Division.
2d Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment
The 2d Battalion is the better place to frame the regiment's later continuity after the classic regimental era. The parent regiment page points to Korea, Alaska, Panama, Iraq, and Afghanistan as parts of the later story, showing how the 9th Infantry survived through battalion-based assignments even after Vietnam dispersed its combat service.
In that sense, the 2d Battalion entry carries the Manchus from their old 2d Division identity into the modern modular Army.
3d Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment
The local icon set includes a 3d Battalion, but the parent regiment page's clearer battalion story points elsewhere. In Vietnam, for example, the regiment page highlights the 4th Battalion as the principal combat battalion under the 25th Infantry Division rather than a documented 3d Battalion narrative.
For that reason the 3d Battalion remains a heritage placeholder inside the icon set rather than a battalion entry with the same documentary confidence as the 1st and 2d.
4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment
The 4th Battalion served in Alaska before transferring to the 25th Infantry Division for the Vietnam War in January 1966.

5th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment
The 5th Battalion was activated at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, in 1986 as part of the 6th Infantry Division.
In 1994 it was reflagged as the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry. Regimental history (Wikipedia).
