The local icon set preserves a 1st Battalion, but the parent regiment page's clearest twentieth-century through-line is the regiment's long service with the 3rd Infantry Division rather than a distinct modern 1st Battalion narrative. For that reason the 1st Battalion remains the most tentative slot on this page.
It works best as a heritage placeholder that acknowledges the icon set without claiming the same documentary footing as the 2d and 3d Battalions.
2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment
The 2d Battalion is the clearest way to express the Cottonbalers' mature divisional identity. The parent regiment page presents the 7th Infantry as one of the classic regiments of the 3rd Infantry Division across World War I, World War II, Korea, and later mechanized service.

The 3d Battalion is the other strong modern carrier of the Cottonbalers' line. Its place on the page reflects the same divisional continuity: a regiment whose identity became inseparable from the 3rd Infantry Division and whose battalions carried that identity forward after the classic regimental era ended.
