48th Infantry Regiment

48th Infantry Regiment

Modern Era, United States, Infantry

The 48th Infantry Regiment was organized in the world-war era and later adapted to the Army's evolving needs through battalion and training assignments. Its lineage belongs to the modern, industrial Army rather than the older Regular Army frontier tradition.

Over the course of the twentieth century the regiment's descendants served in both operational and institutional roles, carrying the 48th Infantry name through repeated reorganizations. This pattern makes it representative of the many lineages that remained active through change even when the full regiment did not operate continuously in the field.

The 48th Infantry therefore illustrates continuity through adaptation: the preservation of unit identity even as the Army changed the way it organized and fought.

Battalion Page

A dedicated battalion subpage now collects the regiment's known battalion icons and short sketches for the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions. Open the 48th Infantry Regiment Battalions page.
