45th Infantry Regiment

45th Infantry Regiment

Modern Era, United States, Infantry

The 45th Infantry Regiment was another of the Philippine Scout regiments, created to serve in the American colonial military establishment in the islands. Like the 43rd Infantry, it reflected the distinctive structure of the U.S. Army's presence in the Philippines before World War II.

Its defining historical moment came in the defense of the Philippines against Japan. The service of the Philippine Scout regiments in 1941-42, including the 45th Infantry, remains one of the most consequential and often underappreciated chapters of U.S. Army history in the Pacific.

The 45th Infantry no longer exists as an active regiment, but its history remains central to understanding the Philippine Scouts and the multinational character of American military service in the islands.
