41st Infantry Regiment

41st Infantry Regiment

Modern Era, United States, Infantry

The 41st Infantry Regiment was organized during World War I and later became associated with the mechanized and armored Army of the twentieth century. Its lineage reflects the transformation of infantry service from foot regiments toward armored infantry and combined-arms warfare.

The regiment is especially linked to the 2nd Armored Division and later to armored and mechanized service in World War II and beyond. In later decades battalions of the lineage continued to serve in the active Army, carrying the regiment's history into the age of heavy maneuver warfare.

The 41st Infantry therefore belongs to the modern mechanized tradition rather than the older frontier tradition, illustrating the Army's technological and organizational shift in the twentieth century.
