Modern Era, United States, Infantry
The 36th Infantry Regiment belongs to the twentieth-century generation of Army regiments rather than the frontier-era force. Organized for the modern divisional Army, it later became associated with mechanized and training roles as the Army adapted to new technologies and organizational systems.
Its history includes service in the world-war era Army and later survival through battalion and training lineages rather than as a continuously visible classic regiment in the older sense. That pattern is typical of several regiments created or reshaped in the early twentieth century.
The 36th Infantry therefore represents the Army's transition from traditional line regiments to a more specialized and flexible twentieth-century force.
A dedicated battalion subpage now collects the regiment's known battalion icons and short sketches for the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions. Open the 36th Infantry Regiment Battalions page.
