Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 8th Battalion, 25th Artillery, was activated at Fort Bragg on 27 June 1966. The Army records Vietnam decorations for this headquarters, which was inactivated at Fort Lewis on 3 February 1971.
It received the field artillery designation in September 1971. In May 1987 the headquarters was redesignated as Battery H, 25th Field Artillery, and activated with the 5th Infantry Division at Fort Polk. Its later battery identity continues the earlier headquarters lineage. Army lineage history, Part 1, PDF page 751.
Research note: The added historical entries cite their sources individually. Regimental illustrations are labeled as such. An earlier battalion designation can continue through another battalion or a separate battery; these relationships are identified in the entries. These additions follow Janice E. McKenney, Field Artillery (U.S. Army Center of Military History, 2010), Parts 1 and 2. The published lineages principally cover developments through 2003; they are not a current order of battle. The original five symbol cards retain their links to individual reference pages.
