Land navigation, or orienteering as some know it, is becoming a lost art. In the days of GPS navigation, it is seen as a task less for necessity and more for novelty. The US Army recently reinstituted teaching this set of tasks after moving away from it for a time. This section of the site will discuss military land navigation. I had to successfully conduct this task numerous times in my career, both during the day and night. I will go over the basics, starting with a discussion on maps, all the way to using a compass and map to navigate to a point. We will also talk about things like polar coordinates and triangulation.

As with all topics here, I will link a list of resources that I find helpful or interesting!
